Blackburn Rovers star launches Academy at Silsoe Global Sports Village

The Jason Roberts Foundation will launch the JRF Independent Football Academy in Bedfordshire this Saturday.

The new building will offer state-of-the-art facilities to children from Brent, who play for the Jason Roberts Foundation IFA team and are already enrolled in the bi-weekly training sessions in the Pavilion centre, also run by the foundation. 


The new academy is led by Eugene Dwaah, former head of recruitment at Fulham F.C. Lucky young footballer players will have access to expert mentors, exclusive residential sessions and specialist coaching sessions. The ground will also be used for the team’s international tournaments and when they are playing against professional teams.

The inaugural festivities will be kicked off with a football match between the Jason Roberts under twelve’s versus the Brent Schools under twelve’s, followed by a tour of the centre and lunch.

The academy has been created in conjunction with Silsoe Global Sports Village, which provides world class amenities and accommodation.
The foundation aims to develop football's future stars by introducing young players to opportunities and professional facilities that would not normally be available to them.

Morell Maison, managing director of Silsoe Global Sports Village, spoke about his connection to the project:

"Football is one of my biggest passions.  This programme is one of development and it's really exciting to be a part of it."

Jason Roberts, MBE, chairman of the charity spoke to The Voice about the opening of the academy:
“With this academy we are able to give the kids the opportunity to showcase their abilities," said Jason.

"I was one of those kids who slipped through the net and didn't get picked for trials. I was lucky I had my uncles, who supported me and introduced me to other possibilities.”
He continued: "We chose Bedfordshire because there was a huge opportunity to link with Silsoe Global Sports Village that offers the kids a wonderful new environment and fantastic facilities."

A further launch will take place at The Pavilion, Stonebridge Recreation Ground in Brent on the 24th February when the JRF Independent Football Academy will play against Norwich City FC Academy in 3 different age groups. More details to follow.
