Blackburn Coaches visit Island
While Jason Roberts took a well-earned rest on the beautiful island of Grenada, after helping to secure Blackburn’s stay in the Premier League, he was joined by Rovers’ First Team Coach, Iain Brunskill and Strength and Conditioning Coach, Adrian Lamb. The Blackburn coaches visited the Island for a week in June, to assist with the Foundations’ Summer Programme. One of the Foundations’ new initiatives is to focus on the strength and conditioning aspect of players rather than just football training, skills and playing. Strength and conditioning is the physical and physiological development of players for elite sport performance. The role of the coach is to bridge the gap between the theory of training and actual training, helping players to become faster, stronger and more flexible and to build their muscular endurance so they perform better and remain injury free. Jason said, “It was great for the Foundations’ coaches and for the young people who attend our programmes, to see a different dynamic to coaching. As a professional footballer I know how important strength and conditioning coaching can be to a players’ performance. It can help the development of a player and to focus on what is needed to improve physical performance including, speed, agility and endurance. I really appreciate Iain and Adrian taking the time to come out to Grenada and to share their insight and experience.” Whilst in Grenada, Iain and Adrian helped Jason to select the third lucky boy who will take part on the cultural youth exchangeprogramme, and have the opportunity to visit the UK in 2012.
